Volunteering
St Pius Church is always looking for young people to assist with a variety of volunteer tasks and ministries. This could be anything from a few hours helping an elderly parishioner with some yard work to a number of weeks assisting with Sacramental Preparation or a couple of intensive weeks in the summer helping with our Vacation Bible School program. You can contact Andrew Beach at pastoralassociate@stpiusbrantford.ca or 519-753-8439 for any opportunity below. This is a great opportunity to get your volunteer hours in high school!
Sacramental Preparation
We are always looking for new ways to integrate our young people to help with our First Communion, First Reconciliation, and Confirmation programs. The time commitment ranges from approximately 1-2 hours every few weeks to 2-3 hours a week.
Vacation Bible School
Each summer we run a Vacation Bible School for children aged 5 to 11 years. The camp is run almost completely by high school students. We need between 25 and 40 staff members for our camp, and tasks include: assisting young children one-on-one; snack preparation; leading songs and dances; facilitating games; science experiments; and much more. There are a variety of jobs and preparation usually begins in April or May of each year. The time commitment is typically a few 1-3 hour meetings and training sessions, a weekend retreat, a week of setup (half-day), and a week of camp (half-day).
Children’s Liturgy
The Children’s Liturgy program always welcomes our youth to help teach the youngest members of our Parish about their faith. Any high school age students are encouraged to consider helping our Parish’s 5 to 9 year old children learn more about their faith. Time commitment is typically 1-2 hours a month during regular 11:00am Sunday Masses.
Youth Ministry
We invite any interested high school age students to assist with our Youth Ministry program. Our program typically includes activities like sports days, meetings, trips, movie nights, game nights, Bible study, and much more. The time commitment is flexible.
Saint Vincent de Paul Society
The Saint Vincent de Paul society of Brantford is always looking for eager volunteers to assist at their downtown shop with: organizing furniture, canned goods, and other items; picking up or delivering large furniture items; and many other tasks. If getting involved with charitable work in your community is something you’re interested in, this is a great opportunity. Time commitment will depend on what your availability is.
Various Other Activities
From time to time we are asked to assist with various activities, so we’re almost always in need of one or two volunteers to assist with small events. We often help out with Parish events run by the Catholic Women’s League (including their Bazaar), gardening and other yard work around the Parish, and other short term activities. The opportunities come up at various times throughout the year and the time commitment varies but is usually 1-4 hours.
