 Bl. Frédéric Janssoone (1838-1916) God’s Peddlar.  Frédéric was born in Ghyvelde, France to a well-to-do farming family.  At the age of nine, his father died.  Frédéric excelled in school, and he came to pursue studies towards the priesthood.  However, Frédéric suspended this pursuit to financially assist his mother.  Frédéric became a rather successful travelling salesman.  Upon the death of his mother in 1861, Frédéric returned to his priestly formation and was ordained a priest with Order of Friars Minor (i.e.…

St. Lawrence (d. 258) A holy roast!  Lawrence was a Spaniard called to serve as an Archdeacon of Rome under Pope Sixtus II.  Emperor Valerian ordered the execution of all Catholic clergy.  On August 6, 258, Pope Sixtus II and six of his seven deacons were martyred.  Lawrence alone was left, for as treasurer, the Prefect of Rome had given Lawrence three days to gather and present the Church’s treasure.  Lawrence spent these last three days of his life giving…
