Fourth Sunday of Advent

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the Fourth Sunday of Advent! Build Your Own Advent Wreath!

Check out this super cute Advent Wreath! All the instructions to build one yourself are below. All you’ll need is:
– Construction paper (green, purple, pink, red)
– Yellow tissue paper (or yellow construction paper)
– Paper plate
– Glue
– Scissors

  1. Trace hands onto green construction paper and cut them out. You will need at least 12 hands, depending on the size.
  2. Cut a large hole out of a paper plate to create a large “doughnut” shape. This will be the base of your wreath.
  3. Glue the hands along the base, with the fingers pointing outwards.
  4. Roll and glue 3 purple tubes and 1 pink tube out of construction paper. These can be any length or width you like–it all depends on how big or small you want your candles to be. Attach them to the wreath base.
  5. Add some red holly berries with red construction paper, or by colouring red dots on white paper.
  6. Each week, add a flame to that week’s candle. You can make a flame out of yellow tissue paper and stick it in the top of the tube. Or you can cut out flames from yellow construction paper and glue them to the top.

Second Sunday of Advent

On the Second Sunday of Advent, we begin to hear more of the story leading up to Jesus’ birth. John the Baptist was an important figure helping to lead the way for Jesus’ ministry. Just a few months older than Jesus, and the son of Mary’s cousin Elizabeth, John began his ministry baptizing others in the wilderness.

John the Baptist Colouring Page

John the Baptist was Jesus’ cousin, and he had an incredibly important job. God sent John to prepare the way for Jesus, so we hear his story during Advent. Prepare the way of the Lord!

Advent Word Search

Appropriate for anyone in grade two or above, this simple word search will help keep us mindful of some of the important things we think about during this season of preparation.

Third Sunday of Advent

This week, we hear more about John the Baptist and his connection with Jesus. We also hear more Old Testament prophecy about the eventual coming of the Messiah – the one who will save God’s people.

Popsicle Stick Nativity Set

Is your home in need of a nativity set – or perhaps, another one? Why not make your own. Check out this incredibly cute craft and, in a few simple steps, put together your very own nativity set. Available in Word Document, PDF, and JPG formats.

Advent Matching Game

Challenge yourself with this fun matching game! Print out and cut apart the cards, and then see if you can match the words with the pictures. Once you think you’ve got them right, compare with the answer key…and then challenge your friends and family to see how they do! You can even play a game of concentration with it; the instructions are below.

For the answer key, the image is under each word that it matches with.

Concentration Game Rules – Setting Up
To set up your game, start by cutting out of all the playing cards. You should have a total of 30 cards – 15 with pictures, and 15 with words. Begin by shuffling the cards well and then place each card face down. You should end up with six rows, each of which has five cards in it.
Concentration Game Rules – Taking a Turn
Player take a turn by turning two cards over. If the cards match, the player picks up both cards and keeps them. If the cards don’t match, the player turns both cards back over. If the player’s selected cards match, they get to go again, until they fail to get a match. The game ends when all of the cards have been matched and picked up.
Concentration Game Rules – Winning the Game
The winner of the game is the player with the most matches once all the cards have been picked up.

John the Baptist Colouring Page

John the Baptist, whom we started hearing about last week, was quite the character. This week we hear more about his mission to get the people ready for Jesus’ arrival. Why not celebrate his important work with a colouring activity?

Fourth Sunday of Advent

This week’s main story is one of the most important in all of human history! The angel Gabriel appears to Mary to tell her that God wants her to have a son – but not just any son. He wants her to have the Son of God! What an honour, and what a responsibility!

Advent Word search (Easier)

Geared towards a younger audience (grades 1 or 2) this word search has a number of great Advent terms to find. See how fast you can find them all!

Advent Word Search (Harder)

This word search is a bit more challenging, and would be appropriate for young people in grades 3 or 4, though some of our younger friends could challenge themselves with it. Can you find all the words? Do you know what they all mean?

Mary and Gabriel Colouring Page

We don’t know exactly what it looked like when the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, but we know that she was happy to do God’s will. We often see Mary pictured as praying when the angel appears – a good reminder that we should be prayerful, too!
